“I’m very excited, t’s my first time in a such a tournament and it’s very special to be here in the Emirates, which is a country I like very much.” Al Soma told the tournament official website on Saturday.
Syrian fans put all their hopes on Al Soma, the three-time Saudi Professional League top scorer, to lead the team to advanced stages at the competition.
Al Soma and his teammates impressed at 2018 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers and they were knocked out at the play-offs after losing to Australia.
Al Soma added “We are convinced that we are a strong team, especially in terms of fitness, and we are convinced that we can play against any team in Asia.”
Syria plays in Group B alongside Jordan, Australia and Palestine.
