After a hard-fought struggle, Jake, 43, finally won custody of his twin daughters, a blessing that came, obviously, with some added expenses.
Prior to intervention by Child Protective Services, Jake had not seen his children in seven months. He was overjoyed but, initially, also overwhelmed financially.
Employed at the same business for the past two years, this single father earns about $1,200 a month. The month when he won custody of his daughters, who now require day care while he is at work.
Jake is adjusting his budget to accommodate the added expenses, but found himself short and late on his rent.
He turned to Interfaith Outreach Services for help. The nonprofit, a partner of the newspaper’s Times Charities, reviewed his case and determined that Jake, who had never been late on his rent before, would be a prime candidate for a Times Charities grant.
Times Charities agreed, and a one-time grant of $600 was approved for Jake and his young family.
Thanks to the generosity of our readers, Times Charities was able to fund the grant request for Charles and hundreds of others in need through the years.
