Chinese investors pulling out of US in 'startling' pace, says finance lawyer – ABS-CBN News

MANILA – Investment relations between the United States and China have been slowing down even before President Donald Trump’s administration, as big-time Chinese investors have been pulling out of America in the last few years, a finance lawyer said Friday.

While Chinese investments still enter the US, many are also divesting large assets in haste, New York Project finance lawyer Paolo Boado said in an interview on ANC’s Market Edge.

“In the last 2 or 3 years, something changed and the speed and urgency by which these companies are divesting large transactions, pretty large assets they bought in the US, is startling to us,” Boado said.

“Because they were exiting the market, we were seeing that there seemed to be less of an interest in the American market,” he added.

The US has also imposed “more restrictions” on overseas investments, especially those coming from China.

Boada said both the US and China were seen investing in alternative regions other than one another.

The two economic giants have been locked in a trade war, with both countries imposing tariffs on traded goods.
